AI Confederation of SC/ST organisations demands naming of new Parliament building after Ambedkar

It organised a protest march from North Avenue to Parliament when the PM was laying foundation stone of the proposed new building

Dr Udit Raj, ex-MP and national chairman of AI Confederation of SC/ST organisations (Parisangh) on Thursday organised a protest march from North Avenue to Parliament. This demonstration was organised at the time when the Prime Minister was laying the foundation stone of the new Parliament building.

Our demand was to name this new building after Dr B R Ambedkar, a press statement released by him said.

Heavy police deployment did not allow the marchers to reach the Parliament. Dr Udit Raj further said that there was popular support for this demand. “In less than 24 hours, millions of people lent their support. Members of Parliament have also come out in support. The Parisangh has decided to take it to all corners of the country. In comparison to other statesmen, Dr Ambedkar and other icons of social justice have least space in govt gazettes, buildings and other places. If the new building of Parliament is named after Dr B R Ambedkar, it will indicate that govt is ready to accommodate the name and fame of backward communities.”
