Donald Trump forgets ‘Gandhi’, declares US relations with Pakistan ‘very good’

Addressing the crowd at Motera cricket stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday, US President Donald Trump declared that US-Pakistan relation was a ‘very good one’.

The US President said, “Our relationship with Pakistan is a very good one. Thanks to these efforts we are beginning to see signs of big progress with Pakistan & we are hopeful for reduced tensions, greater stability & the future of harmony for all of the nations of South Asia.”

It evoked mixed reactions. While people in the stadium took it in their stride, on social media people wondered why Trump Bhakts in India were not protesting!

A tweet read, “Trump: "Our relationship with Pakistan is a very good one... we will work towards reducing tensions in the region."

Crowd: *Cheers*

Any random Indian: "We should have very good relationship with Pakistan... work to reduce tensions."

Crowd: "GADDAR! SEDITION! JAIL ME DAALO!"

Another user tweeted: Pin drop silence in stadium when Trump talks of good relations with Pakistan. Many in the audience already leaving the stadium.

The reference to Pakistan apart, the US President took people by surprise by omitting any mention of Mahatma Gandhi in the Visitors’ Book at Sabarmati Ashram.

“To my great friend Prime Minister Modi – thank you for this wonderful visit,” is all that the US President wrote.

Several indignant Indians reacted by voicing their shock and surprise. At the omission of any reference to Mahatma Gandhi and posted critical and sarcastic messages:

· Trump's note in Sabarmati Ashram's visitor's book mentions a thank you note for Modi. No words on Gandhi?

· Looks like Modi ji told Trump that SABARMATI been built by Modi him Self and he use to sell tea infront of SABARMATI in his childhood .. Why Not a single word about Gandhi ji

· Trump speaks sensibly only via a teleprompter! Wonder why his Communication Director didn’t give him a few lines on Gandhi?

People were quick to take out screen shots of what the then US President Barack Obama had written when he visited Raj Ghat on January 25, 2015:

What Dr Martin Luther King Jr said then remains true today: “The spirit of Gandhi is very much alive today. And it remains a great gift to the world. May we always live in his spirit of love and peace – among all people and nations.

Other reactions were equally scathing:

· Not even a mention of Gandhi ! Not expected from Trump to be aware about British Raj history, but if he knows anything about it, he surely hates Gandhi for downsizing the White empire.
