Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said West Bengal might well be politically unpeaceful, but it is not a "bad state" on the economic front.
Banerjee also said the state has changed "absolutely" in the past eight years since the Trinamool Congress came to power.
"Politically you can say that Bengal is not peaceful.... But on the economic front, it is not a bad state.
Some people are carrying out the propaganda that Bengal is a bad state and not peaceful," she said.
The chief minister was speaking at the launch of ITC's luxury hotel, 'Royal Bengal', here.

Three people, who were returning to their homes after attending a wedding ceremony in Aligarh, were killed Tuesday when their speeding car crashed into a trailer-truck on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, police said.
Gaurav (30), Pankaj (32) and Praveen (28) were returning to Ghazibad after attending a wedding in Aligarh's Tappal town when the accident occurred, they said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday claimed that eight people from her party have been killed so far in post-poll violence in the state and accused Governor Kesri Nath Tripathi of misquoting the number of deceased.
Banerjee claimed eight of the 10 people killed in West Bengal belonged to her party Trinamool Congress while two were from the BJP.
"Yesterday the Governor said 12 people have died in Bengal in post-poll violence. He made a political statement while talking to the national media. In reality 10 people have been killed so far. Eight of them belong to our party," Banerjee said at the unveiling event of a bust of Bengali social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in Kolkata.

Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said on the floor of the Kerala Assembly that 149 cases were registered against various people for posting remarks against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on social media, while nothing happened to the complaints lodged by other political leaders.
"What is happening in Kerala is similar to the developments in Uttar Pradesh ruled by Yogi Adityanath," Chennithala said amidst cheer from the opposition benches.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court asked the Uttar Pradesh government to release freelance journalist Prashant Kanojia, who was recently arrested by the UP Police for posting a tweet mocking Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The post-mortem report of two-year-old Fatehvir Singh, who was pulled out from a 150-foot-deep unused borewell shaft on Tuesday morning after an unsuccessful rescue operation that lasted over four days, suggested that he died "a few days back".
The child was rushed to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), but the doctors declared him brought dead.
A panel of doctors, comprising Dr YS Bansal and Dr Senthil Kumar from the Department of Forensic Medicine at the PGIMER, conducted the post-mortem examination.

Parts of aircraft believed to be that of IAF AN-32 that went missing after taking off from Jorhat airways on June 3 has been found north of Lipo in Arunachal Pradesh. Details being verified. AN-32 with 13 people onboard last contacted ground sources from Arunachal Pradesh on June 3. Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper teams were involved in this mission.
Wreckage of the missing AN-32 aircraft has been found by Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force.
Efforts are now continuing to establish the status of occupants & establish survivors. Further details will be communicated as the recovery actions progress

Vigilance Commissioner Sharad Kumar has been named interim CVC until a new incumbent is chosen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-headed selection panel.
Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) K V Chowdary and Vigilance Commissioner T M Bhasin completed their tenure at the anti-graft body on Sunday and Monday respectively.
Kumar, who is the other Vigilance Commissioner, has been authorised to act as the CVC "until the appointment of the Central Vigilance Commissioner", an order issued by Personnel Ministry said.

The police on Tuesday arrested a person, who decamped with the head of a man after beheading him at Tileimal village in Odisha's Sambalpur district.
Ainthapalli police arrested Ujjala Munda, a relative brother of deceased Satyanarayan Munda on charges of murder. It also seized weapon used in the crime.
The accused allegedly beheaded Satyanarayan while he was sleeping outside his home and fled with the head early in the morning.

In a major blow to India, star batsman Shikhar Dhawan was Tuesday all but ruled out of the World Cup after sustaining a left thumb fracture.
A BCCI source said that Dhawan has sustained a fracture and it might take a month for him to fully recover. The World Cup, which started May 30, ends on July 14.
Dhawan was the hero of India's win over Australia on Sunday with a knock of 117 off 109 balls.

A passenger bus carrying 60 Indian pilgrims has been hit by a truck in Nepal's Rautahat district, killing two persons on the spot and wounding 21 others, a media report said on Tuesday.
The accident occurred late on Monday night when the Kathmandu-bound bus stopped at Paurai forest area in Chandrapur Municipality-1 for the passengers to freshen up, said Nabin Karki, Deputy Superintendent of Police at Rautahat District Police Office.
There were 60 pilgrims inside the bus which was pushed some 20 metres into the forest after being rammed from behind by the truck, the officer said.
The deceased have been identified as Bijay Kumar Jena (52) and Charan Bishal (54), both from Odisha, Karki told The Himalayan Times, adding that they died on the spot.

A deep depression over the Arabian Sea which brewed over the past two days has intensified into a cyclonic storm and is likely to hit the Gujarat coast on June 13 morning, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday.
Cyclone 'Vayu' is further likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next the 24 hours, the Cyclone Warning Division of the IMD said in a bulletin issued at 8 am on Tuesday.
"It is very likely to move nearly northward and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva around Veraval and Diu region as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed 110-120 kilometres per hour gusting to 135 kilometres per hour during early morning of June 13," the bulletin said.

The CBI has booked absconding diamantaire Jatin Mehta in two fresh cases pertaining to an alleged loan fraud of over ₹587.55 crore on complaints from Bank of Maharashtra and Union Bank of India, officials said.
According to the complaints from two state-run banks, Mehta allegedly cheated Bank of Maharashtra to the tune of ₹323.40 crore while Union Bank of India suffered a loss of ₹264.15 crore, they said.
On the basis of complaints from both the banks, the CBI has registered two separate FIRs against Mehta and his company, Winsome Diamonds and Jewellery.
The agency has booked the company, its original promoter Mehta, whole time directors Ramesh I Parikh and Ravichandran Ramasamy, independent director Harish Ratilal Mehta and Jordanian national Hathyam Salman Ali Abu Obeidah on the basis of the complaint from Bank of Maharashtra.

Inspired by a Bhojpuri film, a Class 2 student threatened to blow-up the Jai Prakash Narayan International airport in Patna, police on Tuesday said.
A police team was surprised to find that a threat call to the airport authorities was made by an eight-year-old boy.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajesh Kumar Prabhakar said the boy told the police team that he was inspired by the Bhojpuri film, "Train se Pakistan", in which there was a scene of a phone call threatening to blow-up an airport.
The police later, released the boy after his father issued a bond and assured that he would never repeat the mistake.

Domestic equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty started on a positive note Tuesday driven by gains in IT stocks amid positive global cues.
