Nine soldiers suffered minor injuries after militants attacked an army vehicle with an improvised explosive device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday, officials said.
"A failed attempt was made to attack a mobile vehicle patrol of 44 Rashtriya Rifles with a vehicle-based IED while the army patrol was moving in the general area of Arihal in Pulwama on Monday evening," defence spokesman, Col. Rajesh Kalia told IANS.
"Troops all safe. Few minor injuries. Reports of attack on an Army convoy are unfounded and baseless," he added.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday issued a notice to the Bihar government and the Union Health Ministry calling for a detailed report on the growing number child deaths caused by the encephalitis virus in the state's Muzaffarpur district.
The NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports about the rising number of deaths of children due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Muzaffarpur since the past few days.
The human rights body said that the Bihar encephalitis death toll had reportedly gone up by Monday to 100.

The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh will now issue press releases in Sanskrit too, with the first such document issued on Monday.
Earlier, speaking at a programme organised by Sanskrit Bharti, Adityanath said that Sanskrit was a part of "India's DNA".

NHRC issues a notice to Chief Secretary, Govt of Bihar and Secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, calling for a detailed report in deaths due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome in Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
The Commission has also sought the status of implementation of National Programme for Prevention and Control of Japanese Encephalitis Virus/Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (NPPCJA) and other steps taken to deal with the situation. The response is expected within four weeks.

In a setback to the state's ruling CPI-M, the Kerala High Court on Monday directed that a murder case in which two top party leaders are accused be shifted from Kannur to the CBI court.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in February, had filed the final charge sheet against senior Communist Party of India-Marxist leader P. Jayarajan and young party legislator T.V. Rajesh in the February 2012 Abdul Shukoor murder case.
Hearing the CBI's plea, the high court ordered transfer of the trial from the Tellichery court, where the CBI had initially filed the charge sheet, to the CBI court in Kochi.

In a sudden turn of events, the Mumbai Police on Monday arrested a woman who had lodged a false case of rape against television actor-singer Karan Oberoi, an official said.
Oberoi, who was arrested on May 6 for allegedly raping and blackmailing the woman, was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on June 7.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Shinge confirmed the woman's arrest by the Oshiwara Police for filing a false complaint against Oberoi and orchestrating an assault on herself on May 25.

Six people were killed on Monday after their car fell into a gorge in Uttarakhand, police said.
The accident occurred in Tyuni area of Dehradun district when an Alto car, heading towards Tyuni Bazar from Banpur, fell into the gorge killing all the occupants on the spot.
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed shock over the accident and asked the district authorities to provide compensation to the kin of the victims.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Monday met his Andhra Pradesh counterpart YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and invited him for the inauguration of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project on June 21.

Healthcare services across Kerala were affected as doctors of state-run hospitals boycotted work for two hours on Monday and those of the private hospitals supporting the 24-hour nationwide strike being observed in support of the protests in West Bengal.
Long queues near Outpatient Departments (OPDs) were seen in several government hospitals across the state in the early hours of the day. Some patients said they didn't know of the strike and have been waiting for hours.
"We left our homes at 3 am and do not know if the doctors will attend on us," a patient at the government hospital said.
