Eight people were killed with six others missing as a pilgrimage vessel capsized in Myanmar's Mandalay region on Wednesday.
The accident took place in the morning. With 25 pilgrims aboard, a vessel overturned in Zeetaw dam while travelling to a monastery near the dam in Nyaung Oak village tract in the township, according to a press release from Myanmar Fire Services Department.

Claiming that 'divisive forces' are making attempts to break the unity of the people in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference on Wednesday vowed to foil such machinations by not allowing division of the state on regional and religious lines.

He shared explicit details of molestation in which as a kid he was inappropriately touched. The lawmaker was speaking in the Rajya Sabha while participating in the discussion on the bill for amending the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The proposed amendment provides for stringent punishment including death penalty for sexual assault on minors.

A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed and his pillion rider injured on Wednesday after their two-wheeler collided with an army vehicle in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.
The accident occurred near Chowki Choura along Bhamla road in the border district, resulting in the death of local resident Anil Singh and injuries to another person, the spokesman said.
Terming the accident as "unfortunate", the defence spokesman said a detailed investigation is underway and army authorities have assured complete cooperation.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav on Wednesday blamed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bajrang Dal for mob lynching incidents in Bihar and across the country
"RSS and Bajrang Dal are behind mob lynching in Bihar and across the country," Tej Pratap Yadav, former Bihar Health Minister said in a reference to mob lynching.
Yadav's party RJD along with other opposition parties had repeatedly raised this issue in the ongoing monsoon session of the state Assembly.

Odisha's ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday won the Patkura Assembly seat, defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by 17,920 votes.
BJD candidate Sabitri Agarwalla bagged 96,017 votes, while BJP nominee Bijoy Mohapatra came second with 78,097 votes. Congress continued its dismal show as party candidate Jayanta Kumar Mohanty received mere 2,104 votes.
Kendrapara District Collector Samarth Verma announced the result. The polling for the seat was held on July 20 after being postponed twice in the past few months.

Two youths have been arrested for allegedly harassing and physically assaulting two girls here, police said on Wednesday.
"Two youths, named Evan Chauhan and Zulfikar Khan, both residents of Beniapukur area, were arrested on Tuesday night for allegedly harassing two young girls near the Pavlov Hospital on the night before," an officer from Topsia police station said.
According to police, both youths, riding a two-wheeler allegedly passed lewd comments to two girls passing by in the Beniapukur area at around 11 p.m. on Monday.

The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, on Wednesday decided that the next session of the Assembly would be held from August 2 to 6, an official said.
A spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said that the session would commence in the afternoon of August 2 with obituary references, while legislative business would be transacted on August 5 and 6.
The house would adjourn sine die after the legislative business is completed.

"A major transmission equipment was burnt after a fire broke out at the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited building in Salt Lake in Kolkata on Monday evening," a senior BSNL official in Agartala told IANS requesting identity.
He said that due to the fire and burning of the vital transmission equipment, the mobile and data services of the BSNL continue to disrupt in the eight northeastern states, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar.

An abandoned four-storey building collapsed in central Delhi's Nabi Karim on Wednesday, Delhi Fire Service officials said.
No casualty has been reported, they said.
The fire department said it received a call regarding the incident at 10.57 am, following which six fire tenders with rescue equipment were rushed to the spot.
No one was living in the abandoned building, which was an old structure, a senior fire officer said.

In relief to a Pakistani woman living here for over 30 years and married to an Indian, the Delhi High Court has directed the Centre to process her application for citizenship.
Justice Vibhu Bakhru also asked the Centre to extend her visa till her application is finalised, noting that the petitioner has been residing in India since she was six months old.
The high court also issued notice to the Centre on her plea.

The Mohajirs and the Balochs are accusing the Pakistani security agencies of engaging in human rights violations against the minority communities.
Mohajirs are Urdu-speaking people who migrated from India during partition. A large number of Mohajirs reside in Sindh province's urban areas - notably in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur. The minority group has time and again accused the Pakistan government of human rights violation.

A man was arrested for allegedly carrying contraband worth about Rs 1.25 crore in the international market in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, police said on Wednesday.
Naseem alias Bhurri was arrested at Kandausa village under Baundi police station limits after smack was seized from his possession, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover said.
Naseem, during interrogation, revealed the names of two other persons involved in criminal activities, who were also arrested, he said.

The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday bid farewell to five of its members from Tamil Nadu, who are retiring today after completion of their terms, with V Maitreyan turning emotional during his farewell speech.
The five retiring members are V Maitreyan, D Raja, K R Arjunan, R Lakshmanan and T Rathinavel, all from the AIADMK, except for Raja who is a member of the CPI.
The retiring members said they will miss the House and thanked their colleagues and the chairman, while other members said the House will remember them for their contributions in different ways and hoped they return to the House again.
