Tamil Nadu on Friday continued to witness a sharp rise on the new COVID-19 infections by adding 13,776 new cases to the caseload of 10,51,487 while 78 fatalities took the toll to 13,395, the Health Department said.
The State saw 95,048 active infections while recoveries mounted to 9,43,044 today with 8,078 patients being discharged.
The State capital continued to constitute the bulk of the total cases accounting for 3,842 new infections, totalling 3,01,541 till date.

Supreme Court starts hearing the suo motu cognisance case on COVID-19 crisis, it will also examine the judicial power of High Courts to declare lockdown. A three-judge bench of the Court, headed by CJI SA Bobde is hearing the case.
"People are dying due to lack of oxygen," CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde observed.
"Please permit to recuse from the case," senior advocate, Harish Salve said and pleaded to withdraw from the as amicus curiae.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that it is very unfortunate that many virtual media platforms are abusing this process of appointing Harish Salve as Amicus Curiae in the case.

The lordships should look into the interstate movement as there is a serious shortage of oxygen - senior lawyer, Vikas Singh, for the Supreme Court Bar Association, tells the Supreme Court.
