Two lynched, beheaded, set afire in Assam over black magic allegations

Nine people, including three women, were arrested by the Assam police for lynching two persons including a woman on suspicion of "witch-craft", police said on Friday.

Superintendent of Police Debojit Deuri said that two persons, including a woman, were hacked to death, beheaded and set afire by a mob over suspicion of practising witch-craft (black magic) in Central Assam's Karbi Anglong district.

"On suspicion of witch-craft a mob lynched Ramawati Halua, 50 and Bijoy Gour, 45, following the death of a teenage girl in Rohimapur village under Dokmoka police station area earlier this week," the district police chief told the media.

J'khand allows reopening of religious sites; permits Durga Puja with curbs

People of Jharkhand heaved a sigh of relief as the state government finally announced reopening of all religious places from October 8 and also paved the way for the public celebration of Durga Puja, albeit strictly adhering to Covid-19 guidelines.

A statement of the Jharkhand government said: "After a thorough review of the prevailing pandemic situation it has been decided to allow Durga Puja celebration in the state, keeping in mind that there are no congregations which could trigger the spread of the infection. Therefore, the lockdown related curbs currently within the containment zones will be extended till October 31."

It said that all the religious sites outside the containment zones are permitted to open from October 8 in compliance with protocols which shall be issued separately.

Blast at gas power plant in Bengaluru, 15 injured

A "minor" explosion was reported at a 370 MW gas power plant of the state-run Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd in Bengaluru early on Friday, leaving 15 persons injured, including two critically, an official said.

Speaking to IANS, District Fire officer, Kishore, said that they received a call from the plant at 3.30 a.m., and fire fighters rushed to the spot.

"Four fire tenders, two water pumps and two one foam tender were rushed to the spot. The Rail Wheel Factory had immediately rushed one foam tender from its side, but we did not use it," he said.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police after tracking the Instagram account of a woman arrested her from Surat in Gujarat where she had fled after duping at least 200 people of Rs 2 crores by luring them to invest in fictitious schemes in Delhi.

According to police a man named Parveen Kumar Singh along with his woman friend was operating a society named Jai Maa Laxmi Co-Operative Thrift & Credit Society Ltd. and running a shop called Arpit Cloth Store in Mandawali in Fajalpur, Delhi. Both cheated around 200 people from Mandawali on the pretext of investing in different schemes to earn high profits. They induced people to invest in schemes like Interest Earning Scheme, Loan Scheme, Flat Booking Scheme and Lucky Draw Scheme.
