Arun jaitley’s final journey, people pay tributes

The mortal remains of former Union minister Arun Jaitley was taken to the Nigambodh Ghat from the BJP headquarters here on Sunday afternoon in a flower-decked gun carriage, amidst chants of 'Jaitley ji amar rahein' (long live Jaitley).

The last rites will be performed around 2.30 pm with full State honours, a senior BJP leader.

BJP workers and mourners queued up in large numbers outside the party headquarters since morning to pay their last respects to the leader.

Posters remembering Jaitley have been put up on the roads leading to the Nigambodh Ghat, on the banks of the Yamuna river.

The 66-year-old leader passed away at the AIIMS here on Saturday. He was undergoing treatment at the hospital, where he was admitted on August 9. PTI VIT GVS BUN PR TIR

Trinamool leader shot dead in Bengal

A Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead by bike-borne assailants in West Bengal's Paschim Burdwan district, police said on Sunday. Deceased family have identified the alleged killers.

"Muhammad Khalid Khan, a Trinamool Congress councillor was shot dead around 11.30 p.m. on Saturday. We have received a complaint and detained one person for questioning," an officer of Kulti police station said.

According to the deceased's brother, Khan was walking towards his home when three bike-borne men opened fire. He also named three suspects Kader Sheikh, Tinku Sheikh and Shahid Sheikh.

"His family members said that they have seen the attackers," Jitendra Tiwari, the Mayor of Asansol Municipality and Trinamool leader said.

13 injured in clash between two groups in UP’s Muzaffarnagar

Thirteen people were injured after a clash broke out between two groups over a minor dispute in Shamli district, police said on Sunday.

The clash broke out between two groups over taking water from a public hand pump in Sakoti village, which comes under the jurisdiction of Jhinjana police station, said Dinesh Kumar, in-charge of Chosana police outpost.

Injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital, he said.

Meanwhile, security was tightened and extra police force was deployed in the village, Kumar added.

The mortal remains of former Finance minister Arun Jaitley were on Sunday morning moved from his residence in Kailash Colony here to the BJP headquarters for people to pay their tributes.
Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders accompanied the convoy carrying Jaitley's mortal remains in a military vehicle decked with flowers.

The body will be kept at the BJP headquarters till around 2 p.m., and will then be moved to Nigambodh Ghat for the last rites, said party sources.

Jaitley passed away at AIIMS on Saturday due to a prolonged illness. He was 66.
