Meet Abhishek Singh: IAS officer, an actor and an ardent social worker

Abhishek Singh is a young IAS officer, nowadays busy with his drive-in vaccination project in Delhi, United By Blood. Besides being a govt officer and a sincere social worker, Abhishek is an actor too

At first, one feels a little strange watching an IAS officer as a lovelorn person with sad eyes, in a music video. His on screen persona comes across as of any young man with an expressive face, who is sincerely trying his luck in acting. But Abhishek Singh is much more than that. And his multi-faceted personality happily surprises when we come to know that actually he is deputy commissioner posted in Delhi and is into acting just by chance. He has been appreciated for whatever little acting he has done.

After playing an IAS officer in a popular web series Delhi Crime, Abhishek got an offer to work in a music video "Dil Tod Ke.." by B Praak. He was lauded for his appearance too. Then came Jubin Nautiyal's song "Tujhe Bhoolna to Chaaha.."

Both the music videos proved to be extremely popular. And now Abhishek is looking forward to acting in an upcoming movie and a music video with the Punjabi/Hindi rapper Badshah.

But wait. That is not enough. Another very strong aspect of Abhishek's personality is his active participation in social work. Amid COVID-19 pandemic when people across the country were gasping for breath, Abhishek started mobile oxygen service. He tried his level best to make oxygen easily available to patients. The idea was to save lives as many as one can, he said. And he even helped in arranging for plasma for those who required it.

Then he started the drive-in vaccination programme with the organisattion 'United By Blood' in Delhi. He had established an initiative called SIGMA (Student for involved governance & mutual action) which was a platform for bringing job aspirants and employers on one platform so that finding employment for youth becomes easier.

It is this platform which turned to help migrant workers in the time of crisis after the lockdown last year.

Though Abhishek says he works sincerely in whatever field he devotes his time to, closest to his heart is the work for people, among them, to help them. "It is we who can make system work and my objective is to motivate and mobilise people to make things work," he says. One such project very dear to his heart is Project Hope.

It started when he visited a government school in east Delhi. The school was in shambles and Abhishek at once took the responsibility of making it a better place for children. He started by encouraging parents and he succeeded. Gradually, not only parents but many other celebrities also offered to help.

Abhishek wants to continue working like this. And this is our hope too in these grim times; that many more such committed, enthusiastic and promising people come forward to help, to make system and people work together towards our own betterment.
