The meeting comes after a woman tried to set herself on fire outside the UP CM’s residence, alleging police inaction in her gang rape by a BJP MLA; her father later died in police custody

The father of a 16-year-old girl, who alleged rape by a BJP lawmaker in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao, died of organ injuries that led to septicemia, according to his post mortem report which also revealed that the girl’s father had suffered at least 14 grievous internal injuries.

The middle-aged man was brutally thrashed by MLA’s brother and his henchmen last week. But instead of providing him medical assistance, police arrested him and placed in custody on a complaint by his daughter's alleged rapists. He was taken to district hospital on Sunday evening, when he complained of abdominal pain.

The report stated that his intestine had ruptured that resulted into blood poisoning in the body, that led to his death. All of the internal injuries were at least a week old, it added. Uttar Pradesh's ADG (Law & Order) Anand Kumar himself has made these revelations.

The post mortem report has prompted the Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into a girl's accusations of gang rape against a BJP legislator and the subsequent death of her father in police custody.

Confirming this, Additional Director General (ADG) Law and Order Anand Kumar told IANS that the SIT, which will be headed by the SP (Crime) of Lucknow, will look "into the entire gamut of allegations... from the beginning of the issue in June last year (which is when the 18-year-old first complained of rape by Unnao MLA Kuldeep Singh Senger)".

Questions are being asked by human rights activists that if the injuries were 6-7 days old then why he was not admitted in a hospital. The State Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to Yogi Adityanath government over alleged custodial death.

Meanwhile, a public interest litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking probe into the Unnao rape case and subsequent “custodial death” of girl’s father by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The petitioner, ML Sharma has also sought compensation and protection to the family of the victim.
