A suspected gas explosion and subsequent fire in New York City's Bronx borough killed one person and injured eight others on Tuesday morning, Mayor Eric Adams has said at a press briefing.

Two of the injured were in critical condition while five police officers were taken to hospitals due to smoke inhalation, Xinhua news agency reported, citing earlier media reports.
