A thick coating of snow covers Laurel in Illinois. Christmas Eve is in the air. In the middle of festivities, high-schoolers experience romance in various shades in the intertwined subplots of Let it Snow, a breezy romantic comedy helmed by Luke Snellin streaming on Netflix.

Netflix has been guilty of releasing many mediocre and worse Christmas-themed offerings. Let It Snow, despite playing it safe, isn’t one such film. Short at 92 minutes of running time, it will be a good watch for teenagers and also grown-ups who like the occasional romantic comedy with stories that remind them of their distant past.

The main story revolves around Julie (Isabelle Moner), a bright youngster with an ailing mother who has been accepted into Columbia University. Julie bumps into Stuart Bale (Shameik Moore), a 20-year-old rising pop star with a humble past. Stuart and Julie interact for a short period and like each other. But, will Julie go to Columbia University, which may not be easy considering her mother is not keeping well? Also, what will happen to her relationship with Stuart?

Somewhere else, Tobin (Mitchell Hope) is in love with Angie (Kiernan Shipka), an attractive girl everyone calls the Duke. Tobin feels he is inadequate for Angie, and his insecurities come to the fore. Will their relationship turn into a romantic one in the long run?

Dorrie (Liv Hewson), a waitress in Waffle Town, conceals her sexuality while having a crush on Kerry (Anna Akana), a closeted cheerleader who visits the restaurant with her friends. Will they become a couple after shedding their unease?

Addie (Odeya Rush), Dorrie’s friend, is scared of losing her boyfriend Jeb (Mason Gooding). She throws a fit inside Waffle Town after she finds him sitting with a girl she hates. What will happen to Addie and Jeb?

Will Keon (Jacob Batalon) manages to throw a party in Waffle Town in the middle of a snowstorm? Will Kira (D’Arcy Carden), the pop star Stuart’s publicist keen on protecting her client’s image, stop him from having a relationship with Julie?

Let it Snow is a collage of little stories whose paths criss-cross at some point of time. The script doesn’t make unrealistic demands from its young actors, who are efficient in their respective roles. While the most significant track with Julie and Stuart as protagonists is also the best one, none of the other stories can be dismissed as hurriedly written, an important reason why the film delivers what it promises.

Let It Snow should be enjoyed with a bag of popcorn and a cup of hot coffee. For, it may not be snowing in India but it is cold outside.
