India witnesses a big spike in Covid-19 infections in last 3 days

On Friday 57 new cases were reported by state authorities and 50 by the health ministry

This is by far the highest in a single day as the country now feels the impact of the outbreak.

Curfew and lockdowns are imposed in several parts of the country.

So far, more than 271 cases have been reported in the country...

...around 47% of which (135) have come in the last three days.

The government acknowledged the surge, saying cases had increased “progressively“

Social distancing is therefore, important to stop this chain of transmission.

So far, the Centre said that the outbreak was limited to persons with travel history and their contacts.

But the surge in cases signifies that India has already entered the stage three of the spread

All states have been asked to use all legal powers to implement social distancing

Kerala and Delhi reported 12 and 6 cases, respectively, on Friday, the highest in a single day.

Restrictions were imposed in Kasargod town of Kerala, where six new cases were reported.

Lucknow is under lockdown as the administration goes on to investigate the spread

In Rajasthan’s Bhilwara town, reported eight cases of Covid-19 of which six were among doctors and nurses.

Authorities have not been able to identify the source or any possible contact with an infected person yet.

The situation in Bhilwara is alarming as 500 people were in contact with the three infected doctors

Curfew is imposed and all these people have been kept in isolation

Section 144 has also been imposed in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot

  Gujarat reported seven new cases on Friday.

With the number of cases rising, the health ministry has issued a fresh advisory

It says that no suspected Covid-19 patient should be turned away from any hospital.

The change in testing policy for Covid-19 signals that community transmission has started

It's a worrisome as India lacks resources and preparedness to fight the lethal battle
