Violence in Delhi leaves 20 dead and hundreds injured.

Communal violence over the amended citizenship law in northeast Delhi left the capital city wounded and tense

So far, 20 people have lost their lives in the violence as police fail to control the situation.


The rioters ran on streets, burning and looting shops, pelting stones and thrashing people.

Despite heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces, situation continues to be tense.

Five bodies were brought to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital from the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, taking the death toll to 18, a senior official said.

Delhi Police on Wednesday dispersed the crowd of people, who had gathered outside chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence.

People had gathered on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday demanding action against perpetrators of Delhi violence and seeking restoration of peace.

Delhi high court at midnight hearing directed police to ensure safe passage and emergency treatment for people injured in Delhi violence.

The Delhi Police on Tuesday said 11 FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence in northeast Delhi

Heavy deployment of Delhi Police personnel and paramilitary forces like Rapid Action Force and CRPF is done in the riot-hit areas.
