Five states—Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram — will go to polls before December 15, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Saturday, as it imposed a Model Code of Conduct in all the poll-bound states beginning today.

Chhattisgarh will go to elections in two phases, November 12 and 20, while polling in Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram will take place in single phase on November 28, announced Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) OP Rawat.

The electoral rolls for Telangana will be published on October 12, he said.

Elections for the assemblies of Rajasthan and Telangana will take place on December 7, Rawat informed mediapersons.

The counting for votes in all five states will take place on December 11, when the results will be announced, as per the CEC.

Earlier in the day, Congress had questioned the independence of the EC after it postponed its press conference from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, apparently due to an election rally in Ajmer in poll-bound Rajasthan which Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to due to address.
