Demanding the release of UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu who has been languishing in jail since May 20, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has attacked the Adityanath Yogi-led UP government, saying that Lallu has been jailed for serving the people.

Invoking Mahatma Gandhi, Priyanka took to Twitter to announce the launch of the ‘seva satyagraha’.

Gandhiji taught us that oppressors will prevent you from doing good work. But, you keep doing your job with truthfulness. UP Congress chief Ajay Lallu has been jailed for serving the people. We are opposing his oppression through ‘seva- satyagraha’,” said Priyanka.

‘Seva satyagraha’ is a campaign launched by the UP Congress to press the demand for the release of Lallu, under which the party has decided to provide food to 25 lakh people across the state.

Addressing a presser at Lucknow on Friday, leader of the CLP Aradhana Mishra had said that 10 lakh poster will be put up all over the state to demand Lallu’s release.

Stating that the ‘anti-poor’ Yogi government had put Lallu in jail because he was helping the poor and migrant workers, Congress leader Imran Masood told the media that “fake charges will not prevent the party from serving people.”

Ajay Kumar Lallu was arrested by the UP police for alleged forgery of documents of buses arranged by the Congress for ferrying stranded migrant laborers during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Lallu was arrested twice in Agra, following which he applied for bail, but judge PK Rai rejected his bail saying, “Lallu is not entitled to bail at this stage as the offense was serious in nature and a probe is going on”.
