In a shocking move, Shaheen Education Institute in Bidar, Karnataka has been charged with sedition after students of the institute performed a play against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) on Sunday, reported CNN News18.

The institute was on Monday booked under sections 124A (sedition), 504 (provoke breach of peace), 505(2) (statements promoting enmity), 153A (promoting communal hatred) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC. The First Information Report(FIR) has named the head of the school and its management as accused.

Besides the management of the school, Mohammed Yousuf Rahim has been charged for allegedly sharing the video of the play on social media.

The minor children of the management institute were made to perform the play, stated the complaint. The play shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bad light. It also reflected the message that people of one community would have to leave the country if Citizenship Act and NRC were brought into force, reported CNN News 18.

The complainant Nilesh Rakshyal, aged 35, a social worker, alleged that the drama performed by the students and the way it was shared on social media platforms could disturb the peace in the society. It also sends out the wrong message about government policies and decisions, he alleged.

Rakshyal demanded legal action against Rahim and the institute. Shaheen Education Institute is located in Gurunanak Colony in Bidar, Karnataka's northernmost district.

A local report stated that the ABVP staged a protest against the institute and submitted a memorandum to the state home minister.
