Wife of co-pilot killed in Kozhikode air crash gives birth to boy

There is finally something to smile about in the family of late Captain Akhilesh Kumar, the co-pilot of the Air India Express flight which crashed at Kozhikode International airport last month.

The pilot's wife Megha Shukla has given birth to a baby boy at Nayati Medicity, Mathura.

Dr Preeti Bhadauria, who led the team that was taking care of Megha during her pregnancy, said: "The baby boy weighing 2.75 kilos was born to Megha Shukla at at our hospital on September 5. Both the baby and mother are doing fine and are likely to be discharged in the next two days. It is a full-term delivery. She has been under our care throughout."

Landslide blocks stretch of Chandigarh-Manali highway

Traffic on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway was affected following a massive landslide on a stretch along the Beas river in Himachal Pradesh, police said on Sunday.

There were no reports of any casualty. An official said they hoped to restore normal traffic flow by late Sunday evening.

Nearly 100 metres of the National Highway was badly damaged in the landslide near Dwada in Mandi district on Friday night.

Hundreds of vehicles, largely trucks laden with apples, remained stranded in the area

24 killed in air conditioner blast in Bangladesh mosque

Twenty four people have now died and around 50 are injured after six air conditioners exploded during prayers in a mosque in Bangladesh's Fatullah town.

So far, a total of 24 people, including a child, have died from burn injuries sustained in the blasts which took place around 9 pm on Friday, said Dr Partha Shankar Pal, resident medical officer of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Police have filed a case over the incident, suspected to be caused by a gas leakage in pipelines.

Narayanganj Fatullah Model police station Sub Inspector Humayun Kabir filed the case on Saturday night. Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of the same police station, confirmed the matter. The case has been filed against the mosque's management committee, its construction authority, the concerned electricity and Titas Gas authorities, among others.

Odisha records highest single-day spike of 3,810 corona cases

Odisha recorded its highest single-day spike of 3,810 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its total positive cases to 1,24,031, the Health Department said on Sunday.

Odisha also reported eight more COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking its death toll to 546. While Ganjam district reported four more deaths, Khordha, Koraput, Rayagada, and Sundargarh recorded one each.

Out of the new cases, 2,286 were detected in quarantine while 1,524 were local contact cases.

President, PM to speak on New Education Policy on Monday

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 on Monday morning.

The President and the Prime Minister will be addressing the topic during the inaugural session of the Governors' Conference at 10.30 a.m. through video conference, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement on Sunday.

The conference titled 'Role of NEP-2020 in Transforming Higher Education' is being organised by the Ministry of Education. NEP-2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century which was announced after 34 years of the previous National Policy on Education, 1986.

NEP-2020 is directed towards major reforms in both school and higher education level. The new National Education Policy strives for making India into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, said the PMO, adding the policy envisions an India-centred education system that contributes directly to transforming India into a global superpower.

Bodies of 2 terrorists recovered from Kishanganga river in Kashmir

The police along with the army have recovered two dead bodies from the Kishanganga river in Tulail area in Gurez in Kashmir besides recovering arms and ammunition.

The bodies were shifted to the Gurez hospital for medico-legal formalities.

"Incriminating materials and arms and ammunition were also recovered which include AK-47 magazine, 9 mm pistol, hand grenade, wireless set etc.," the police said.

The police said as per the documents recovered, one has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Yosuf Dar, a resident of Dogripora Pulwama.

Gujarat's COVID-19 tally reaches 1,03,006 : Officials

The COVID-19 cases in Gujarat rose to 1,03,006 cases, with the addition of the daily spike of 1,311 cases, health officials said.

Surat reported 277 cases and Ahmedabad saw 167 cases coming up. The number of positive cases are increasing drastically in Rajkot and Jamnagar.

Ahmedabad was followed by Rajkot where 145 cases were registered. Vadodara has been recording more than 120 cases detected daily and everyday it keeps on increasing and on Saturday 119 cases were registered, while 111 positive cases were detected in Jamnagar.

Cop among two injured in clash in Bihar

Two persons including a sub inspector were injured after an encounter between police and liquor mafia in R-block railway crossing here, police said.

The liquor mafias have smuggled liquor consignment from Jharkhand in a special train bound to Patna via Gaya.

Liquor sale in Bihar is completely banned by the government.

The local police has information about the liquor consignment, subsequently Patna police deployed a team at railway crossing, police said on Sunday.
