Within two days of Congress coming to power in Rajasthan, the new Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced loan waivers to the farmers upto ₹2 lakhs on Wednesday.

Rajasthan has become third Congress ruled state to announce farm loan waiver after party's win in recently held assembly polls. The announcement of the loan waiver will cost the state government around ₹18,000 crore.

Previously, Chief Minister Kamal Nath of Madhya Pradesh and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of Chattisgarh announced loan waivers to farmers on Monday, December 17, and Tuesday, December 18, respectively.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi in the run up to the recently held state assembly elections had promised that if Congress comes into power, farm loans would be waived off within 10 days.
