The administration of Dadra and Nagar Haveli has issued notices to officers of the electricity, labour, and industries department to ensure that they mobilise and bring factory workers for the home minister Amit Shah’s rally in the union territory on September 1.

In the notice issued to the Industries secretary, Collector and Deputy Labour Commissioner, the Director of Industries Karanjit Vadodaria has appointed assistant and junior engineers as nodal officers to monitor the mobilisation of industrial workers from smaller factories during the visit of Amit Shah.

At the latter end of the order, the director has enlisted certain officials who are supposed to coordinate with the representatives of various industries to verify the details of the vehicle which will be used for transportation of employees for Amit Shah’s rally.

These officers have been charged with organising proper arrangement of workers for the visit. In fact, according to sources, this has become a practice that the order even carries an error.

The officer instead of adding a date after the issuance of this letter, it has noted that the movement plan has to be submitted by the officers on January 16, 2019. A look at the dates of previous visits to Dadra and Nagar Haveli shows that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the Union Territory on January 19, 2019. It appears that the officer simply copied that section of the letter from an earlier letter. This points to the fact that this is a regular practice.

“How do you think all rallies have people attending. The officials are ordered to ensure that employees of certain industries reach the rally site. That is why the order has come from the electricity and industries department. If anyone decides not to send people, the electricity will be cut off in that area, so work cannot be done either way. It is then better to send employees,” explained the source, who is with the Federation of Industries Association in the Union Territory.

“From my area, I will have to organise a minimum of 2,000 workers if not more. Since, Amit Shah’s meeting is at 11.30 am, we usually take second shift and third shift workers. We organise their food and water. We are told to organise so many workers for every such rally,” said the source.

The concerned employer is required to ensure food and water are supplied to the worker. These officers also have to give the approximate number of workers to be transported from their respective areas.
