The Central Bureau of Investigation has detained gang rape-accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar at 4.30 am on Friday, within hours of a Congress protest led by Rahul Gandhi in Delhi demanding justice for rape victims in Unnao and Kathua, reported ANI.
The agency further reported that CBI has registered three cases against Kuldeep Singh Sengar, quoting CBI sources. Sources also told ANI that Sengar was being questioned by the CBI. The ruling party law maker from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, is facing murder and rape charges and was booked under the following sections of the Indian Penal Code: Section 366 (Kidnapping, abducting), Section 363 (Punishment for kidnapping), Section 376 (Punishment for rape) and Section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation).
The Yogi Adityanath-led government had ordered a CBI probe into the case and suspended doctors and police officers.
After Sengar was detained, the complainant in the Unnao rape case said “I want strict action should be taken against him and he should be given severe punishment."
