Narendra Modi to hold two rallies in Bihar on Tuesday

Pakistan on Monday for the first time indicated that F-16s might have been used to hit Indian fighter jets during the aerial combat on February 27 and said Islamabad retains the right to use "anything and everything" in its self defence.

Pakistan's military spokesman Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor issued a statement with reference to what he said "repeated Indian claims" about shooting down of Pakistani F-16 by India and use of F-16 in the air battle on February 27.

"As regard Pakistan Air Force (PAF) action for strikes across Line of Control, it was done by JF-17 from within Pakistan airspace," he said.

Later, when two Indian jets crossed the Line of Control, they were shot down by the PAF, he claimed.

A day after Akhlaq lynching case prime accused Vishal Singh Rana was found sitting in the front row at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's election rally, the Congress on Monday accused the saffron party of trying to polarise the voters.

"The BJP knows that it has lost the elections and thus they are trying to polarise the voters ahead of the polls," Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput told IANS.

Hitting out at Adityanath, he said: "Earlier Yogiji use to sit with Amanmani Tripathi, who is also a murder accused. And now the murder accused were seen sitting in the front of his rally, this clearly exposes their (BJP's) nature."

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai on Monday accused Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari of misleading the people of Delhi by claiming that the city can't be granted full statehood due to a Supreme Court ruling.

"Five years back, you and your party had promised to make Delhi a full state, and on the basis of that promise the people of Delhi made your party victorious on all seven seats of Delhi," Rai wrote to Tiwari, who is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from North East Delhi.

After five years, however, neither the BJP nor its MPs did anything on the statehood for Delhi, Rai said.

Deepa Dasmunshi declares assets worth Rs 47.64 lakh

Former Union Minister of State and Congress candidate for the Raiganj Lok Sabha constituency, Deepa Dasmunsi has declared movable assets worth about Rs 47.64 lakh in her own name, up by 15 per cent from over Rs 41.39 lakh declared in 2014.

Compared to Rs 1.11 crore of movable assets, declared before the last Lok Sabha elections in the name of her deceased husband and former Union Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, about Rs 90.26 lakh of movable property has been declared against his name this time.

Dasmunsi, who has shown a total annual income of over Rs 7.8 lakh in 2018-19, currently has five bank deposits of an aggregate value of over Rs 31.42 lakh, besides Rs 26,500 in cash.

Congress demands action against assets information in Shah’s poll affidavit

The Congress on Monday accused BJP President Amit Shah of providing "false information" related to his property in the affidavit filed by him for Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat and demanded that the Election Commission direct the Returning Officer to initiate action against him.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari alleged that Shah in his affidavit has "undervalued" his assets which is "very serious" as it is against the provisions of the Representation of the People Act.

Referring to a plot in Gandhinagar, the Congress leader claimed that as per the government guidelines the market value of the plot comes to Rs 66.5 lakh, but Shah had declared its value at Rs 25 lakh.

AAP complains to EC against 'NAMO TV'

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday filed a complaint with the Election Commission against a television channel 'NAMO TV' named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the letter, the AAP said the Supreme Court, in its various judgments, held that there has to be a "level playing field" for all political parties. "The Commission is entrusted with the duty to maintain the same among all the parties."

Mohd Irsad, from AAP's Legal Cell, said the intention behind these judicial precedents was to have equal opportunities to all political parties irrespective of money and muscle power so that all political parties can reach out to the voters.

As many as 97 FIRs and daily diary (DD) entries have been registered here till date against various political parties and others for violation of the model code of conduct in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, Delhi's chief electoral officer (CEO) said Monday.

CEO Ranbir Singh also told reporters that a statistics surveillance team, constituted to keep an eye on the expenses of political parties, has seized Rs 51.97 lakh cash from outer Delhi and Dwarka.

Hardik Patel moves SC against Gujarat HC order in riot case

Congress leader Hardik Patel Monday moved the Supreme Court challenging the Gujarat High Court order rejecting his plea to stay his conviction in the 2015 Vispur rioting case.

His petition is likely to be mentioned on Tuesday for urgent hearing and his lawyers would seek stay of the March 29 order of the high court which is coming in the way of his contesting the Lok Sabha election.

Bengal is 'problematic', so 7-phase poll says Election Commission

Special police observer for West Bengal Vivek Dube on Monday said it is not possible to declare all polling booths as 'sensitive' but the seven phase election was decided as the state is 'problematic'.

Dube held an all-party meeting here and later said he was satisfied with the deliberations. Most of the leaders wanted more patrolling, with all parties urging him to ensure that the elections were conducted in a free and fair manner.

Asked about the opposition parties' demand that Bengal be declared sensitive, he said: "All booths can never be declared as sensitive. Some will be sensitive, some will be highly sensitive and the classification is based on certain criteria."

Dube explained that the reason why "the election in the state has been divided into seven phases is that the EC knew that West Bengal is a problematic state". Also, the state will need more forces.

Predicting defeat for BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Monday mockingly said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the fate of 'India Shining' due to his anti- poor policies.

"After completing five years, Vajpayee came up with a slogan 'India Shining' in 2004. I don't know where it shined.

If it had really shone, there was no need for any welfare schemes. History tells us what happened to 'India Shining'. Narendra Modi will also meet the same fate," Siddaramaiah said at a 'Meet the Press' programme at the Press Club of Bangalore.

The district-level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) has started to preview, scrutinize and verify advertisements put up by candidates ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, an official spokesman said.

Santosh Kumar Rai, in a notification issued on Saturday, ordered a magisterial inquiry into the "physical assault" of Jill Gyamar, who was on election duty near Leel village under Sangram circle of the district.

The order has been issued against BJP candidate Lokam Tassar, his personal security officer and other supporters, who had allegedly attacked the magistrate on March 24 in presence of the circle officer and the district magistrate, officials said. The probe shall be conducted by Sangram SDO Otem Jamoh and submitted to the DEO by April 2, the order said.

Children roped-in to convince parents to vote in LS polls

In a bid to increase the voting percentage, the Palghar district administration in Maharashtra has roped-in school children to convince their parents to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Around four lakh students from nearly 3,000 schools in Palghar are a part of this campaign, the district information office said in a release issued on Monday.

Last week, the children, under the guidance of teachers, took an oath in their respective schools to convince their parents to vote in the elections, it said.

Sanctity of RBI must be maintained: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said the dignity of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has "diminished" as on its foundation day, she called for maintaining "the sanctity" of the central bank along with other institutions.

"On this day in 1935, the Reserve Bank of India was established. Best wishes to all the employees of @RBI on this occasion. We have seen in recent times, how the dignity of this institution was diminished. The sanctity of these high offices must be maintained," she tweeted.

The RBI, headquarters, where its Governor sits, was initially established in Kolkata but was permanently moved to Mumbai in 1937.

Congress protests attack on party candidate in Tripura

The Congress on Sunday organised a road blockade to protest the attack on their candidate Subal Bhowmik in southern Tripura.

"At least eight Congressmen were injured, three of them seriously, when BJP workers attacked a road show of Subal Bhowmik. He, however, narrowly escaped the attack," Congress leader and former state party chief Gopal Roy told the media.

Roy said after the incident, took place at Tulamura in southern Tripura's Gomati district, the agitated Congress workers immediately held a road blockade to protest the incident. It was withdrawn after election and senior police officials assured action against the assailants.

Modi to address poll rally in Maharashtra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public meeting in Wardha Monday to campaign for the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance candidates in Vidarbha region. The meeting will begin at 11 am at Swavalambi ground here, BJP sources said.

All the 10 candidates of the BJP-Sena alliance will be present at the meeting, they said.

The candidates include Union ministers Nitin Gadkari (Nagpur) and Hansraj Ahir (Chandrapur), Krupal Tumane (Ramtek), Ramdas Tadas (Wardha), Ashok Nete (Gadchiroli), Bhavana Gawali (Yavatmal-Washim), Anand Adsul (Amravati), Sanjay Dhotre (Akola), Sunil Mendhe (Bhandara-Gondia) and Pratap Jadhao (Buldhana). Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will also attend the meeting.
