A day after Delhi police allegedly lathi-charged students at Jamia Milia Islamia University (JMI) campus in Delhi, most of the opposition parties came in support of the students and demanded a judicial enquiry into police action.

Demanding probe, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad blamed Modi government for the unrest across the country and sought an explanation from the Modi government.

“How can police enter the campus, if permission was not granted by the university administration?” asked Azad addressing a press conference in Delhi on Monday.

“Delhi police comes under the Home Minister Amit Shah. Modi government should tell the nation how police entered the campus?” asserted Azad.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary, Sitaram Yechury took a swipe at Home Minister Amit Shah for not being seen for two days. Saying that CAB is not a Hindu-Muslim issue, Yechury echoed Azad’s concerns and said the CAB is against the spirit of the Constitution.

“No police can enter any campus…It is unacceptable in a democracy…Whoever gave the order must be booked and brought to justice. Where is Home Minister? We have not seen him for two days.” said Yechury.

Refuting the BJP’s claim that those who are protesting are anti-national, Yechury asserted, “We are loyal to the Indian constitution. And upholding Indian constitution is the highest form of patriotism.”

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja attacked Modi- Shah for creating a war-like situation in the country.

“Where is Home Minister Amit Shah? Modi-Shah should be held responsible for creating unrest in the country,” said Raja.

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal attacked Home Minister Amit Shah for misleading the Parliament by quoting wrong numbers about Hindu population in Pakistan. “It is shameful for all of us to see a person as Home Minister who quotes the wrong facts in the Parliament. We will not tolerate it. We have to save our country from these people,” said Sibal.

Former JDU president, Sharad Yadav addressed media and said, “We got our Constitution ready after many sacrifices. Now, after getting approval from the Parliament the CAB has become an act. Either this government will remain in power or this Act will remain. Either of them will have to go now.”
