Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, detained at a guest house in UP’s Sitapur, lashed out at the Narendra Modi government for detaining her “illegally” while those who allegedly killed farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri were roaming scot-free.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to her official twitter handle to target the Narendra Modi government. She shared a video, purportedly shot in Lakhimpur Kheri, showing a vehicle running over protesting farmers. Priyanka also questioned the lack of action against those responsible for stoking Sunday’s violence.

“Mr Narendra Modi, your government has kept me detained for the last 28 hours without an order or FIR. But the person who trampled over these farmers is yet to be arrested. Why?”, Priyanka Gandhi said in the tweet.

Priyanka Gandhi and several other Congress leaders were detained by the UP Police on Monday for evading house arrest and attempting to make their way to Lakhimpur Kheri. She was escorted to a PAC guest house in Sitapur.

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday condemned the incident at Lakhimpur Kheri, calling it an “inhuman massacre” and said those who were silent on the issue are already dead.

“The one who is silent even after seeing this inhuman massacre, he is already dead. But we will not let this sacrifice go in vain - Kisan Satyagraha Zindabad! #FarmersProtest,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Meanwhile, Prohibitory orders are in place in the district after eight people, including four farmers, were killed on Sunday as violence erupted during a farmers' protest.
