Blaming the Narendra Modi led central government over the abysmal state of India's economy, former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday said that in two weeks all will know that the country's GDP is gpoing below 5% and underlined that it is a "man-made catastrophe".
"In two weeks, we will know how catastrophic the second quarter (July-Sept) of 2019-20 has been for the economy. And when the catastrophe is known, please remember it is a man-made catastrophe," Chidambaram said in a tweet, posted by his family on his behalf.
"We will go below 5%, the question is how much lower?" he added.
Chidamabaram is currently lodged in the Tihar jail in INX media case, with the courts repeatedly rejecting his bail pleas.

The Congress-led Madhya Pradesh government has added Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib, Pakistan, to list of pilgrimage sites under the 'Mukhya Mantri Teerth Darshan Yojna' scheme, ANI reported.
Under this scheme, the Madhya Pradesh government provides senior citizens (aged 60 years or above) of the state free travel to any one of pilgrimage sites included in the list.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, after conducting an aerial survey of cyclone 'Bulbul'-hit areas in North 24 Parganas, said on Wednesday that the loss incurred by the state due to the natural calamity might go up to Rs 50,000 crore.
Banerjee handed over a cheque of Rs 2.4 lakh each to the family members of five people from the district who lost their lives in the calamity.
Taking note of the fact that at least 15 lakh hectares of agricultural land was damaged due to the storm, she said the affected farmers would get all help from her government.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a plea filed by former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda challenging his disqualification by the Election Commission in 2017 for not submitting poll expenses.
A bench headed by CJI designate Justice S A Bobde took note of the submission that Koda's petition needed an urgent hearing in view of the fact that the last date for filing nomination for the upcoming Assembly polls was concluding on November 18.

In a fresh petition filed in Bombay High Court, a lawyer petitioner has prayed for the election of former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to be set aside, alleging discrepancies in the affidavit he filed with his nomination papers.
Another case against Fadnavis for allegedly omitting to mention details of two pending cases in his election affidavit in 2014 is also expected to come up before the Supreme Court on Wednesday, November 13. The petitioner has requested for permission to place on record subsequent facts.

Hong Kong awoke to a third straight day of chaos Wednesday following a night of intense battles between pro-democracy protesters and riot police on a university campus that saw some of the most violent scenes in more than five months of unrest.

The Supreme Court will pronounce judgement on Wednesday on the petitions challenging the Delhi High Court verdict bringing the office of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) within the ambit of Right to Information (RTI) Act.
A notice in connection with the judgement was uploaded on the Supreme Court website on Tuesday afternoon. A five-judge headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and comprising Justices N.V. Ramana, D.Y. Chandrachud, Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna, will pronounce the judgement at 2 pm.
