Congress leaders detained, UP govt refuses permission to the party’s march against Chinmayanand rape case

Congress’ proposed ‘padyatra’ to oppose UP government’s former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand molestation case has been denied permission by the district officials on Monday. Several Congress leaders have been taken into custody or have been detained before their march.

Congress party leader Ajay Kumar Lalu along with party spokesperson Rajiv Tyagi and other party leaders have been taken into custody from their respective hotels in the morning before the march.

Union Minister Jitin Prasada, a local party leader is under house arrest.

Large number of Police force has been deployed in the city to prevent the march from taking place. Congress party is adamant to carry out the 170 Km march from Shahjahanpur to Lucknow demanding actions against Swami Chinmayanand.

District Magistrate Indra Vikram Singh said that no permission has been given to the Congress to carry out this march as section 144 of the CrPC is enforced in the district in view of the festive season.

A local court will hear the bail request for Chinmayanand today as well as the victim, who has been booked under extortion complaint by Chinmayanand.
