Russian drone and missile strikes killed at least seven people in Ukraine on Saturday, while a Ukrainian drone attack killed three people in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, officials said, a day after a Russian strike on a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih killed at least 16 people.

The latest attacks came amid an intensification of long-range strikes by both sides, with Russia continuing to target Ukrainian cities and infrastructure and Ukraine carrying out increasingly deep drone attacks inside Russia.

In Kyiv, one person was killed and another wounded overnight when Russian ballistic missiles struck railway infrastructure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had targeted a locomotive depot.

Two more people were killed in a separate Russian ballistic missile strike on the Kyiv region, which surrounds the capital, local authorities said.

Russian drone strikes also killed one person overnight in the Zaporizhzhia region, while a daytime attack killed three others and wounded 15, according to local officials. Zelenskyy said three people were also wounded when a minibus was attacked in the regional capital, also called Zaporizhzhia.

In Russia’s Krasnodar region, three people, including two children, were killed and two adults wounded in a Ukrainian drone strike, local authorities said.

Kryvyi Rih shopping centre toll reaches 16

The latest attacks followed Friday’s Russian drone strike on a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine.

Dnipropetrovsk regional head Oleksandr Hanzha said the death toll had risen to 16. Four people remained missing, while around 130 were wounded.

Zelenskyy, who is from Kryvyi Rih, described the attack as a “double-tap” strike, alleging that an initial wave of drones was followed by a second attack as rescue workers responded.

The blaze spread across around 9,000 square metres before being extinguished, with rescue operations continuing.

Kryvyi Rih has been repeatedly targeted during Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. In April 2025, 20 people, including nine children, were killed in one of the city’s deadliest attacks.

The shopping centre strike came just a day after a major Russian aerial assault on Kyiv that killed 16 people. The United Nations said Kyiv was among the Ukrainian cities worst affected by Russian attacks in July, with at least 54 civilians killed and 202 wounded.

Ukraine expands strikes inside Russia

Ukraine has increasingly carried the war deep into Russian territory with long-range drone attacks, particularly against oil facilities and logistics infrastructure.

The attacks on Russian energy facilities have contributed to fuel shortages in parts of the country, while Ukrainian strikes have also targeted warehouses belonging to major online retailers.

Russian online outlet Astra reported that a Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire at an oil refinery in the Samara region on Saturday. Local officials confirmed damage at an unidentified industrial facility and a logistics centre belonging to Ozon, a rival of Wildberries.

Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces had struck the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in Samara, about 1,000 km from the front line.

The latest exchange of attacks comes as Russia continues to exploit Ukraine’s shortage of US-made Patriot air defence interceptors, which Kyiv relies on to counter Russian ballistic missiles. Both sides have stepped up aerial attacks in recent weeks, with little progress reported in diplomatic efforts to end the war.
