Have you ever witnessed the upwards flowing water column on Earth? We are not talking about a sci-fi film’s scene. An astonishing video showing the same was recorded by a 41-year-old man, Samy Jacobsen, in the Faroe Islands, part of the Kingdom of Denmark, when he was taking a walk near the cliffs off Suouroy on Monday.

In the video, it is seen that the vertical section of water is defying the rule of gravity by flowing upwards from the sea surface on undercutting wall of a steep cliff.

A senior operational meteorologist at the Met Office, Greg Dewhurst described this whirlwind phenomenon as "spectacular", reported NDTV.

A tornado over the water is made by a spiralling pillar of air which is formed when a cliff edge spins the wind in a circle, said a weather expert.

NDTV quoted him as saying, "To us here in the operations centre it looks like a water spout which is a little like a tornado but it forms over the water. The weather over the area is unsettled with heavy showers and these ingredients together help form the water spouts.”
