Amid the reports of brutal rapes and murders and rising crimes against women, comes the trailer of Deepika Padukone’s much-awaited film Chhapaak. Releasing the trailer on line the film’s maker FoxStarHindi said: ‘Malti (Deepika Padukone) was attacked with acid on a street in New Delhi, in 2005. Through her story, the film makes an attempt to understand the on-ground consequences of surviving an acid attack in India, the medico-legal-social state of affairs that transpires after the acid has been hurled and the face is irreparably burnt.’

The trailer undoubtedly shows the glimpses of a moving story about the survival and struggles of an acid attack victim. This changes not only her face but also scars an entire personality.

But the acid attack survivor’s character Malti gets up, fights for justice and learns to lead a simple life of a bubbly girl that she earlier was. The film has been directed by Meghna Gulzar who shot to fame by her beautiful film Raazi and won a lot of praise for Talvar.

The story of the film is apparently inspired by the acid attack survivor Laxmi who was attacked in 2005 by a man whose advances she had rejected.

Sharing the trailer on Instagram, Deepika wrote: “ Rarely do you come across a story where you do not need an entire narration to decide if you want to be a part of a film or not. What is even rarer is to not be able to articulate and put into words what you feel for the film and its journey...
Chhapaak is all of that and more for me...”

Although Deepika has been constantly a part of many blockbusters of Hindi cinema with this film, it seems she will be proving her mettle as an actress. The film is slated to be released on January 10, 2020 and stars Vikram Massey, Rohit Sukhwani along with Deepika.
