The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards saw ‘Saturday Night Live’ — a platform for political satire — and two women-oriented dramas won big, even as US President Donald Trump remained a favorite subject during the ceremony where people of colour stood out.

Saturday Night Live, which features Alec Baldwin doing an impression of Trump, won nine awards, while Big Little Lies and The Handmaid's Tale — both of which tell engrossing tales on women — won eight honours each at the gala on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theatre, which saw Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra as one of the presenters.

She took the stage alongside Anthony Anderson to present the Award for Outstanding Variety Talk Series to John Oliver for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver at the Microsoft Theater on September 17.

Politics remained at the forefront of the event, where former White House press secretary Sean Spicer made a surprise appearance.

American comedian-actor Stephen Colbert, debuting as the Emmy Awards host, laced his opening monologue with swipes at Trump.

Colbert later blamed the Emmys for Trump's election as President. He suggested that if Trump had won an award for The Apprentice in 2009, he might not have run for President.

To support this, he even showed a clip of a presidential debate where Trump said he should have won an Emmy.

Lena Waithe became the first African American woman to win an Emmy award for writing for a comedy series. She shared the award with Indian-American Aziz Ansari for co-writing the Thanksgiving episode of Master of None.

Even Sterling K Brown made history as he emerged as the first African-American to win Best Actor in a Drama Series at the Emmys in 19 years. He was lauded for This Is Us.

Adding more colour of diversity to the show were Nicole Kidman, Elisabeth Moss, Riz Ahmed and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn and former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni have joined hands for a campaign titled Burn your Fears with which they are urging people to overcome their fears and take the first step towards making their dreams come true.

They are also joined by Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj.

To mark Dussehra, Star Bharat on Monday unveiled a campaign in sync with the brand's philosophy of ‘Bhula de darr, kuch alag kar' and inspire the nation to be fearless, read a statement.

The celebrities have been roped in to take the campaign forward, and will be seen in a video produced and directed by Star India's creative team in association with Leo Burnett.

It shows these icons taking the first step and revealing how they overcame their fears and fulfilled their potential and dreams.

In the promo film, Dhoni talks about how he had to grapple with the security that his job with the Railways entailed and his dream of being a cricketer.

Mithali Raj looks back at the time when she was dissuaded from pursuing cricket, and Ajay talks about how people around tried to stop him from undertaking dangerous stunts.

Actor Sidharth Malhotra along with the other Bollywood personalities will also be seen joining the campaign later.

“ ‘Burn your Fear’ inspires people to conquer their fears, unleash their true selves and chase their dreams. Just like the icons in our brand film. The campaign which culminates this Dussehra will be all about burning one's fears,” said Amit Chopra, CEO, Entertainment, Star India.
