How did you shift from Navy to acting?

I imagined travelling to new places and having amazing adventures at sea but it turned out to be a very mundane and repetitive life. I got advised by my Captain on ship, he said 'If there is anything else you want to do in life, now is the time to try it out'.

Did you always want to become an actor?

Not at all, we come from a family where either you join the army or you become a farmer. Rannvijay was the first one to break out into the media from our entire family. Watching him gave me the confidence to try it out too, but behind the camera initially.

How did you got into writing space?

Towards the end of 2012, I was completely saturated with reality TV, I worked non stop for 3 years and became associate creative director. I assisted Nagesh Kukunoor and Abbas Tyrewala. From them I learnt the discipline and realised my flair for writing. Once I started writing, the rush of your words coming to life on a set was something I chased and enjoyed thoroughly.

Tell us about your new show 'Potluck'.

It's the best thing that's happened in my career, a show made by amazing people full of really creative and clever performers. It feels fresh and new to have a show without foul language, murder or violence. The writing and casting of Potluck has made it special.

How was your working experience with your co-stars?

Just the best, I have become friends and almost family like with Jatin sir and Kitu ma'am. Cyrus, Ira , Shikha, Saloni, Siddhant and I have become good friends. We all enjoy being around each other off camera and that really translated well on camera. We had many potlucks off camera.

Hosting, acting, writing- which one you like the most?

I enjoy being a part of the storytelling process, I've been an intern, an assistant handling art and costumes, I've written run orders and scripts for years. Adding acting to this whole process makes me slightly more competent on the set. The dream is to write, produce and act when the time is right. As of now, I want to leave an impression in the industry and in the hearts of the audience as a performer.

Have you ever thought of participating in reality shows?

I've seen it from the makers side, I don't enjoy being a a part of such social experiments, I've helped make such shows and somehow being a contestant has never appealed to me.

Who is your inspiration?

My mother, father and brother. All three of them are super achievers, leaders in their own fields and genuinely good people. I strive to be a little more like them everyday. For a long time, I used to think I'm the black sheep of the family.

What's next ?

A film that I recently signed and a massive web series for one of the leading OTTs. I wish I could tell you more, will share the news as I get the permissions to do so from the makers.
