Bollywood actors Sanjay Dutt and Ranbir Kapoor are gearing up to share screen space in the upcoming Shamshera. Yash Raj Films has announced July 31, 2020, as the release date in a press release on Wednesday.

The period action-drama film also stars Vaani Kapoor, and it will be her third film under the YRF banner after Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and Befikre (2016). The project marks Ranbir’s return to YRF after a gap of nine years. His last project with the banner was Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.

Earlier in an interview, Ranbir Kapoor said, Shamshera is not a story of a daaku, it is a film based in the 1800s; it is about a dacoit tribe that is fighting for its rights and independence from the British. This is a great story of heroism; a story rooted in our country. It is a departure from the kind of films I have done. It is not (like) the coming-of-age lover boy roles I have done often. Shamshera is in the aspirational space – true, badass commercial cinema.

In a motion poster released by Yash Raj Films on May 7, an animated version of Ranbir Kapoor was seen in the garb of a dacoit, holding a battle axe in one hand and arrows in another.

The shooting of Shamshera will begin by the end of this year and is scheduled to be wrapped up by mid-2019.
