Ever since the nationwide lockdown began due to corona virus pandemic, film and television industries have been hit badly. Thousands of workers working in these industries have been left without work and struggling to manage enough food.

Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) is leaving no stone unturned to help its more than 5 lakh worker members. From reaching out to producer bodies and big celebrity names in the industry for monetary or otherwise help to getting help from the government, FWICE is doing all that it can.

A big help has come from filmmaker Rohit Shetty who will donate 51 lakhs to FWICE. The federation will utilize the money to help its daily wage workers like junior artistes, stunt artistes, light men, spot boys etc. FWICE is making sure that monetary help that the association receives is utilised in providing groceries, medical and other necessary facilities to its members.

Ashok Dubey, General Secretary of FWICE confirmed this news and added that, “Other than Rohit Shetty whose contribution of 51 lakhs is huge, Frames Production Company has donated 25 lakh worth of ration whereas Shashi Sumeet Productions have donated 50,000 rupees to FWICE.”

Even before the lockdown, when shootings across India were stopped, FWICE has been requesting producers to not deduct the payments of these workers, and also appealed the established names of the industry to help. Some of them have promised to help in whichever way possible.
