Taapsee Pannu to play cricketer Mithali Raj in biopic ‘Shabaash Mithu’

Viacom 18 is all set to start shooting a biopic on cricketer Mithali Raj’s life. The film will star Taapsee Pannu in the main role and will be directed by Rahul Dholakia

After making films on strong women characters like Queen, Mary Kom and Kahani, Viacom 18 is all set to start shooting a biopic on a woman cricketer.Yes, the makers have the rights of Cricketer Mithali Raj's life. The film is titled Shabaash Mithu
Directed by Rahul Dholakia, it will be Taapsee Pannu who will be essaying the role of the cricketer. Ajit Andhare, COO of the studio said, the story idea struck me about a year ago while watching the movie Hidden Figures. We tried many writers until our creative director Priya Aven cracked the script.

He adds, “Mithali Raj is a name that stands for women power in the world of Indian cricket. We are proud to bring this untold story of the rise of Indian women cricket to life on screen.”

Mithali Raj said, “I have always stood for and voiced my opinion for equal opportunity for women not just in cricket but across all fields. I am thankful to the studio for bringing alive my story on screen and also giving me a bigger platform to be able to reach out to young women who dare to dream.”


Taapsee who has been doing a lot of women-centric cinema said,  “it is truly an honour to play the role of India's most successful captain where Women's cricket is concerned. Even though I have already started feeling the pressure of stepping in her shoes. But I am also looking forward to working with Rahul Dholakia for it is  first of its kind of story and yet  to learn another sport.which is considered as a religion in our country.''
