The trailer of the much talked about biopic ‘Thackeray’ was launched on Wednesday and it caught the fancy of Twitterati within a few minutes of its launch. Based on the life and times of the Shiv Sena Supremo Balasaheb Thackeray, the film is scheduled to hit the screens on January 23, 2019. And it is all set to clash with Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi which will release on January 25th.

The trailer looked quite intriguing as Nawazuddin Siddiqui who plays the role of the Shiv Sena founder does not only look like him but has also copied his mannerisms quite deftly. Nawazuddin who has received praises for his work in the past and was specially lauded for his titular role in Manto took to twitter to say that playing Balasaheb Thackeray has been his toughest task so far.

Nawazuddin is supported by Amrita Rao, Laxman Singh Rajput, Abdul Qadir Ain Niranjan Javir, Radha Sagar and Anushka Jadhav. The film has been written and directed by Abhijit Panse and produced by Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut.

But like Balasaheb Thackeray, the film too landed in a controversy when CBFC objected to the dialogues in the film referring to South Indians in the late 1960s, accusing them of snatching away jobs from the Marathi youth, and another referring to Babri Masjid. However, the Sena leadership has reportedly agreed to comply with CBFC.
