Tell us about your journey.

Well it’s been quite an interesting journey. It seems like it was yesterday when I decided to enroll in the film school and start my journey towards being a filmmaker and that ‘yesterday’ happened about fifteen years ago and it’s been quite a process and I’ve learnt through that process and met some amazing people. I got the chance to work with some people I’m a huge fan of whether it’s Farhan Akhtar ,Abbas Tyrewala, Ayan Mukerji. It has been quite an enriching journey and today I’m looking forward to seeing how this goes further.

Tell us something about the film ‘Tuesdays and Fridays’.

It is a sweet little rom-com with a twist. It’s basically my take on the kind of films I have grown up watching. Watching the rom-coms has been my guilty pleasure and it’s a film that talks about how the concept of romance has changed for this generation how a lot of films and books give us a very false idea of what romance should be like and when the reality strikes, we realize that things don’t just appear perfectly for you on a platter. You have to work on relationships. That’s what the film says but in a very light and fun manner. And you just have fun during those 1hr46mins of the film with some fun songs and pretty people and beautiful locations. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the film and leave the theater with a smile on your face

Do you think it’s a dream launch for you having Sanjay Leela Bhansali producing the film for you ?

Absolutely, see just think about how many scripts and how many people must be approaching Mr Bhansali for him to consider! Just the fact that he thought I was worthy of the script just gives me so much confidence. And I feel this is an indication to the industry that hey, this is somebody worth looking at at least and so yeah it’s a dream launch to be to get the stamp of approval from somebody who’s known for being one of the most celebrated film makers in the industry.

The new comer Anmol and Jhataleka are also debuting with you. How did you find them as actors?

I am really excited that through the film we found these two absolutely adorable actors and these two faces that we’re giving to the industry with this film. Both of them are very sincere and hard working and really helped me as a first time filmmaker. I personally think both of them have a really bright future. I feel like a proud parent and can’t wait to see them in their next film! I will always be proud of them for their future achievements.

Given COVID situation, do you think OTT has changed entertainment industry? Do you think digital platforms and theatres can co-exist?

I think yes covid has amplified the reach of OTT platforms but the covid time has also made a lot of people realise including me, the charm and love that we feel for theatres. I went to watch a film in the theatres like last week and just the feeling of being in the theatre reminds you why I and so many people are in the love with the medium and that makes me think, surely, theatres and OTT can and will co-exist, both platform have their own advantages and eventually as a filmmaker I think I would like to explore story telling for various platforms but the dream has always been- the big screen. I look forward to just telling stories in any platform which gives me the chance.

Your film title has a very interesting name -Tuesdays and Fridays. What prompte you to decide on such a quirky title?

To be honest, I never really thought the title would stay as is. But because it is about these two people who decide to meet on Tuesdays and Fridays, the title remained. I always thought it would be a working title and eventually it would be something else but it’s just so apt. I’m so thankful that everyone from T-series to everybody, just the moment they heard it, they were like, no, no, no, let’s keep this. We don’t need another title. And I really thought producers would force me to change it, but well, it was not so and thankfully the title remained.

You come from a non filmy background. Was it difficult for you to make a place for yourself in the industry.

I don’t know how to explain this. I don’t know if it was difficult, but it took a lot of work and time for sure. I had to go through this entire process of going to a film school, I did not know anybody in the industry, so I couldn’t ask someone if I could be assistant director in their film. So, yes it took time. And the journey was slightly longer as compared to those who might be from the industry. It wasn’t difficult, it was just slightly longer than I would have liked. But here I am finally with the first film.
