Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee is in receipt of forms filled up by the next of kin of over 27,000 people who have died due to COVID in the state in the last 15 days. Of the deceased, 22 per cent had died from the pandemic while at home while 77.3 per cent had died in hospitals.

The state Congress has received information about the dead through 10,000 Google forms and 17,000 through manual forms from across the state.

State party chief Amit Chavda has demanded a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to each of the kin of the dead.

Accusing the state government of hiding the number of dead as well as COVID positive people, Chavda said as many as 1.27 lakh people have died due to COVID-19 in the state. He has demanded a White Paper from the state government on the pandemic.

He said the Congress had started collecting information about the fatalities from the pandemic since May 10 and had received 10,000 Google forms and 17,000 manual forms from the relatives of those who had died from COVID-19 in the last 15 days.

He said such a large number of people had died from COVID-19 due to the criminal negligence of the government as a majority of the fatalities had occurred in hospitals.

The state Congress president wanted the state government to conduct a door-to-door survey and come out with a white paper on the exact casualty figures.
