A senior Delhi police officer died on Thursday ,November 29,around 10 am allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the 10th floor of the Delhi Police headquarters at ITO, New Delhi

The ACP's body was found on the porch of the headquarters, near its entrance.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Prem Ballabh Kumar, a 55-year-old ACP rank official who was posted in crime and traffic unit of Delhi Police. He was awarded the Police Medal for his service in 2016.

Officers investigating the matter believe that Ballabh committed suicide but have launched an investigation to probe if it could have been an accident as no suicide note was found at the premises.

Preliminary enquiry has revealed that the ACP was under depression. He was also undergoing treatment for some illness and had spent some time in GTB Hospital 
Rajesh Khurana, joint commissioner of police (central range).

However in the recent past there have been many similar incidents of suicides committed by police official

Earlier in May, senior Maharashtra police officer Himanshu Roy, involved in many high-profile investigations, committed suicide by shooting himself at his home in Mumbai. He was battling cancer and had apparently been depressed.

On Friday November 16, a 35-year-old head constable of Delhi Police shot himself dead in the VVIP parking lot of the Delhi Secretariat.

Similarly, Rajesh Sahani, a senior police officer shot himself dead with a service pistol inside his room at Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) headquarters in Gomtinagar in Lucknow.
