Senior and popular actor Prakash Raj has announced that he will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate. He wished every one a happy new year exactly at midnight and made this announcement on Twitter:

Prakash Raj has been quite vocal against the politics around Hindutva and the BJP in general. Ahead of Karnataka Assembly polls, the actor set off #JustAsking campaign. More people are joining the Just Asking Foundation now and want to understand what we are going to do in the next 5-10 years, he said in an interview.

The national award-winning actor-filmmaker was deeply shocked by the murder of his friend and journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh and that changed him forever. In an interview to Scroll.in, the actor had said, “ Sometimes the questions we ask maybe wrong, but we must always defend our right to ask them at all costs. The idea is to tell people that we are stronger than our leaders. We, as people, have to decide first. Else, the system cannot be cleaned. And for that, we must first have a fearless society.”

Prakash Raj has not as yet revealed anything about the constituency he will contest from.
