After ‘Go Corona Go’ Union minister Ramdas Athawale comes up with yet another idea-boycott Chinese food
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said that besides boycotting Chinese products, we should “boycott Chinese food” and “all restaurants and hotels that sell Chinese food in India should be closed down”
Amid the tensions at the borders after the violent face-off between India and China, Junior Minister for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale has reportedly come up with a novel idea and said that besides boycotting Chinese products, Indian citizens can stop eating their food.
"My suggestion is that restaurants and hotels that sell Chinese food should be shut down. I also request those who eat Chinese food to stop eating them, boycott them," Athawale said, a report in NDTV stated. Athawale tweeted: China is a country that betrays. In India, all the Chinese products should be boycotted. Chinese food and the Chinese food hotels should be closed down in India.”
At a time when our 20 soldiers were killed by the Chinese and they disrespected us, my request is that everyone should stop eating Chinese food. All the states must give an order to ban Chinese restaurant and hotels, he said.
Earlier, the 60-year-old Union minister was seen in a viral video chanting “go corona, go corona”. He can be credited with coining this slogan which was later mocked at on social media
This time too, most of the netizens thought it was an impractical suggestion. Many pointed out that the so-called Chinese food mostly consumed in India is only in name and those who sell them are people who have a job to lose if their businesses close down. But Twitterati had a field day commenting over Athawale’s idea. Soon enough Twitter was flooded with various memes and words ‘Manchurian’ and ‘Go Corona Go’ started trending on Twitter.
Indian and Chinese soldiers had indulged in a violent face-off in eastern Ladakh's Galwan valley on Monday night. Military commanders of both sides are holding meetings at the incident sites to de escalate tension.
