NSA Ajit Doval on Monday was given cabinet rank in Government with an extension of five more years as the National Security Adviser (NSA). However, an official announcement regarding the decision is yet to be made.

News agency ANI has reported that he has been given cabinet rank in recognition of his contribution in the national security domain. Doval was appointed as National Security Advisor in 2014.

Speculations about Ajit Doval’s appointment had been making rounds after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath for a second term last week, along with the BJP president Amit Shah who took oath as the new Home Minister.

A 1968-batch Kerala cadre IPS officer who spent virtually all his career in IB, Ajit Doval is a former IB chief (retired in 2005) and intel operative. He was part of the operations against infiltration in Punjab, Mizoram and Srinagar as well as in Pakistan and United Kingdom
