Anna Hazare has criticised the the Modi led central government for the ongoing CBI crisis. In a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Anna Hazare said that for the last few days the news of the dispute between the top two officers of CBI has been a matter of concern for our democracy and it is shameful.

Launching a direct attack on the Modi government, He said “Corruption is continuously increasing in the country, but the people who are running the country are not very serious about it.”

He further said that the probe agency like CBI should not be under the control of the government, as there are chances that CBI can be misused. He added that the government should not intervene in the work of agencies like CBI and CVC.

He wrote, “the people had started a movement demanding the appointment of Lokpal and Lokayukt in every state in 2011. The people forced the government to make a law regarding this at that time. Finally, in January, 2014, the Lokpal act was passed in the country for the first time. But unfortunately even after four and a half years of this government, a Lokpal has not been appointed under the new law.”

In 2011, Anna Hazare, who had organised mass movement demanding the appointment of Lokpal and Lokayukta in every state, said, "If there had been Lokpal system in the country and had CBI been under Lokpal, then this situation of the dispute between the top officials of CBI would not have risen.”

Demanding the appointment of Lokpal he wrote that institutions like CBI, CVC should be brought under the purview of the Lokpal.

He directly accused the Modi government of refusing to appoint a Lokpal and threatened another round of public campaign may take place to pressurise the government.
