In the backdrop of ongoing nationwide anti-CAA protest, socialist ideologue and Swaraj Party leader, Yogendra Yadav on Friday said democracy, diversity and development – all three – have been put on stake (by the Modi government).

Speaking at the second captain Abbas Ali memorial lecture, Yadav criticized BJP-RSS combine saying, those who did not even shed a single drop of blood for the freedom of the country are asking people to submit their proof of citizenship.

Terming the passage of the CAA as a diversionary tactic, Yadav asserted, “the government actually wants to divert our attention from sinking economy, rising unemployment and inflation”.

“The entire county, from Punjab to Puducherry, is going through awakening about civil rights and witnessing a wave of resistance…It is very rare in the history,” added Yadav.

Veteran journalist, Kurban Ali also addressed the gathering and said, “Abbas Ali wanted India to become such a country where there is no division along the religion, caste and community”.

Famous freedom fighter, Abbas Ali served as captain in the Indian National Army (INA) founded by Subhash Chandra Bose. Later, he joined the socialist movement and worked as a close associate of Ram Manohar Lohia.
