Several socio-political activists, film artists, intellectuals and people are coming together to protest against NPR-NRC-CAA in Bihar. The 'Save Constitution, Save Citizenship Mega Rally' on Thursday, February 27 at Gandhi Maidan in Patna is being organised by Bihar NPR-NRC-CAA Virodhi Sangharsh Morcha. It is a front formed by over 100 citizen organisations from different parts of the country.

According to the information so far, former JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar and Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Swara Bhaskar, Sushant Singh, Anurag Kashyap, Kannan Gopinathan, Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, JNU Students Union president Aishi Ghosh, Mahatma Gandhi great-grandson Tushar Gandhi, Congress leader Sadaf Jafar, Alka Lamba, social activist Medha Patkar, Yogendra Yadav, Dalit leader and MLA from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani are expected to attend the rally. Radhika Vemula, mother of Rohit Vemula, and Fatima Nafees, mother of missing student Najeeb from JNU are also coming to attend this rally.

Apart from these, student representatives of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia University, University of Delhi, Patna University, will also be present.

'Jana Gana Mana Yatra' for dialogue with the people of Bihar

In order to make people aware of why this rally is being organised, several discussions over NPR-NRC-CAA and 'Jan Gana Mana' Yatra was organised. The Yatra, led by two former JNU Students Union presidents, CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar and Kadwa MLA Shakeel Ahmed Khan, travelled to 38 districts of Bihar and communicated with the people on these issues. Representatives of about 150 organisations involved in the front took part in this Yatra.

The NPR-NRC-CAA Virodhi Sangharsh Morcha made it clear in his dialogue with the people that these laws are bad for everyone.

A representative of Sangharsh Morcha said, "We believe that NPR-NRC-CAA will not affect only one community. It will affect every community in the society. Yes, it is likely to affect Muslims more. If a community thinks that it will survive then it is its misunderstanding. No one will be able to escape from this.”

The representative of the Morcha argued that after seventy years of independence, we should be asked to prove our citizenship by showing papers- this is not acceptable to us. These steps are against all the working people, the poor, the Dalits, the tribals, the women, the elderly. This is a way to make people stand in queues and harass them. It is against the principles of the Constitution. This is a way to divide society. We are against the politics of division.

Therefore, The Morcha demands that the Centre and the state government should immediately stop the process of National Population Registration (NPR). The possibility of NRC should be stopped. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) should be repealed or withdrawn.
