"Even discussing this issue feels disgusting, don't bring up this issue. It is terrible to even talk about it"”, said actor Amitabh Bachhan on being asked about his views on rapes in the country, as an ambassador for 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao', ANI News reported on Thursday.

Previously, the Bollywood megastar has praised the government's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign and in that context spoke of "the importance of protecting and nurturing the girl child”.

It is hard to imagine, at a time when the rape of an 8-year-old child in Kathua, J&K has upset and worried millions of Indians, why Bachchan thinks that even talking about rape is “terrible” while also claiming to champion the cause of safety of girl children.

Do India’s girl children deserve such "ambassadors”?
