Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Darshan Yojana, started to started to ensure students know about matters of historical significance, has turned into a cruel joke for a batch students from Champaran. According to a news report, middle school government students from Kotwa block of East Champaran were brought to state capital Patna for visiting historical monuments under the Chief Minister’s Darshan scheme. However, they were allegedly made to sleep on the footpath outside Patna Zoo.

According to the News18 report, the students could not go back home as their bus had broken down. Instead of looking for options to ensure safety of the students, the students from Champaran were allegedly made to sleep on the footpath outside Gate 1 of the Zoological park.

Notably, the Patna Zoological park is located on the arterial Bailey Road, which is also where homes of many state government ministers and IAS and IPS officers have their official residences. It is also less than a kilometre away from the Chief Minister’s house and Governor’s house.

Could these poor students not have been accommodated in some of these better quarters than the dangerous, accident-prone Bailey Road?
