A day after an FIR was registered against the former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar for allegedly misbehaving with a doctor, nurses and a security guard of AIIMS-Patna, RSS affiliate Bajrang Dal's activists allegedly attacked him at Begusarai in Bihar.

As per media reports, two persons were injured and several vehicles were vandalised when supporters of Kanhaiya Kumar and local residents started fighting with each other, claimed Bihar police on Tuesday.

However, Kumar's supporters claimed that the attackers were Bajrang Dal activists.
According to the SHO Deepak Kumar, the incident occurred on Monday, October 17, in Bhagwanpur police station area where Kumar had made a brief stopover while returning to his home in Beehat village after addressing a public meeting.

Kumar had gone to meet a friend nearby and the cavalcade of his supporters blocked a part of the street, thus hindering the movement of vehicles, the officer said.

When locals objected, the former JNUSU president's  supporters declined to move following which both the sides started to fight resulting in the injuries to two Puja Samiti members, even as nearly half a dozen vehicles parked on the street were vandalised, the SHO said.

Former JNU student  Umar Khalid tweeted blaming Bajrang Dal activists for attacking Kanhaiya Kumar.

Kumar, along with his supporters, left the spot after the clashes following which the locals lodged a complaint against those involved in the violence, police said, adding the matter is being investigated and action will be taken in accordance with law.

Later, a counter complaint was lodged at the Barauni police station by Kumar and his supporters wherein they accused the residents of Bhagwanpur of "murderous assault", SHO Gajendra Singh said.

According to sources, the former JNU president is likely to contest 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Begusarai seat.
