RBI increases withdrawal limit for PMC Bank depositors

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has enhanced withdrawal limit for depositors of Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank Ltd to Rs 40,000 from the earlier Rs 25,000, over six months.

Initially, the RBI had limited the withdrawal to just Rs 1,000 in six months. It was raised to Rs 10,000 and then to Rs 25,000 after angry protests by hapless depositors.

The development came two days after angry customers of the scam-hit bank shouted slogans in the presence of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman outside BJP office in Mumbai.

In a related development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized and identified movable and immovable assets worth more than Rs 3,830 crores owned by Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL), its directors, promoters, PMC Bank officials and others related entities in the PMC Bank fraud case.
