Launching a blistering attack on Modi government for “destroying India’s secular fabric” through Parliament, CPI leader and Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam termed passing of Citizen Amendment Bill in Lok Sabha as an “anti-national act”.

Talking to National Herald, Viswam said the Bill is an attempt by the Modi government to exclude Muslims from mainstream India.

“It is aimed at making Muslims second-class citizen in their own country. It (Citizen Amendment Bill) is not only anti-constitution, anti-democracy but anti-national also,” said Viswam.

“Today they have brought Citizen Amendment Bill, tomorrow they will bring NRC, then Common Civil Code. All this is directed towards making India a Hindu Rashtra,” he added.

Explaining the difference between Hinduism and Hindutva, Viswam noted that BJP-RSS combine is fanning majoritarian sentiments for nothing but electoral gains. “This is dangerous for the foundation of India, the idea of India,” he asserted.

It is important to note that Lok Sabha passed the controversial Citizen Amendment Bill on Monday amidst protests and dissent from Opposition parties.  Left parties including CPM and CPI opposed the Bill even before it was introduced in the Lok Sabha and criticized its passage in LS in the harshest possible terms.
