With the Rajasthan assembly elections coming up in November 2018, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee President Sachin Pilot is reaching out to citizens to raise funds for the party’s election campaign using Congress Party’s in-house crowdfunding platform. Pilot said the intention was to usher in clean and transparent funding, while pointing a finger at incumbent BJP Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who has been accused of spending government money on her election campaigns.

“BJP has enough money, power and resources, they don’t lack anything. However, the Congress believes in politics of principles.

We might lack resources but we have people’s blessings. People of Rajasthan who feel cheated over the last four years of misrule under Vasundhara Raje, understand that if Congress comes to power, we can create a better future for the youth and farmers,” says Sachin Pilot in a video appeal on Congress’ crowdfunding website contribute.inc.in.

“The Rajasthan crowdfunding campaign is one among a series of campaigns the party is planning in the run-up to the 2019 general elections. The party leadership is seeking to inject transparency into campaign finance by bringing in clean funds from the people of India”, said Divya Spandana, former Member of Parliament and head of Social Media and Digital Communications for Congress. “We understand that a majority of Indians still contribute through traditional methods, but as our digital footprint grows across the country, more and more people are finding crowdfunding as a platform to directly connect with the Congress party,” added Divya.

Earlier this year, the Congress Party announced it's pilot crowdfunding campaign during Karnataka elections, where a first-time candidate took on BJP’s heavyweight B Sreeramulu. The second crowdfunding campaign was to offer support to 30-year-old Muktikanta Biswal, a man from Odisha who walked 1,400 kms from Odisha to Delhi urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deliver on a promise he had made to the people of Rourkela.
